Using Natural Oils for Best Skin Results
While we’ve explored some of our favorite essential oils in a previous article, there are so many more natural oils that you can work into your skincare routine. Many plants and nuts, including avocados, walnuts, and soy, contain natural oils that do wonders for your skin’s health. Even oils that you may use in the kitchen, such as olive and almond oil, have incredible skincare applications!

These neutral oils, commonly called “carrier oils” are frequently combined with a small amount of essential oil in a wide range of products. But these natural oils have incredible properties even on their own. They can make skin smoother, reduce lines and wrinkles, and even help control acne. Of course, the biggest question when it comes to natural oils is which ones are right for you. We’re taking a look at some of our favorites below:
1 | Avocado Oil
Is there anything the avocado can’t do? You may have heard that avocados contain “good” fat. But did you know that good fat comes from amazing natural oils? Avocado oil is loaded with oleic acid, which makes it ideal for dry skin. Plus, it contains Vitamins A, B, and E, which can help with sun damage. Because the Avocado oil is thick, it works well for face masks and other applications where it can stay on the skin for an extended time period.
2 | Babassu Oil
If you’re a fan of coconut oil’s benefits, but aren’t as keen on its fruity smell, babassu oil may be your new favorite. Much like coconut oil, babassu oil is solid at room temperature and contains high levels of lauric acid. In addition to giving this natural oil excellent anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties, this acid also gives it a long shelf life: up to two years! Babassu oil is an excellent all-over moisturizer and feels cool on the skin.
3 | Grapeseed Oil
Much like avocados, grapes are loaded with beneficial ingredients for the body (even after they become red wine!) Grapeseed oil offers many skincare benefits, especially if you’re prone to acne and oily skin. It’s a very light oil that’s high in linoleic acid, which can help reduce inflammation. However, it has a very short shelf life. This means many products that incorporate Grapeseed oil sometimes supplement it with Vitamin E or other stabilizing additives.
4 | Jojoba Oil
Of all the natural oils that can be used as carriers, jojoba oil is the closest to our skin’s naturally-occurring oil. Obviously, that makes it a great choice for a variety of skincare products and applications. The high levels of eicosenoic acid in jojoba oil make this natural oil one of the easiest for skin to absorb, while also extending its shelf life. Jojoba oil also has antifungal properties, making it a great choice to pair with essential oils like lavender and tea tree.
5 | Moringa Oil
The moringa, AKA “miracle tree,” contains some truly wondrous natural oil. Moringa oil offers a host of benefits for your skin, including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It’s a relatively heavy oil, containing 70 percent oleic acid, but contains high levels of Vitamin A, which helps repair damaged cells and encourage collagen production. Not only that, but some research suggests that Moringa oil can help accelerate wound healing!
