The Best Carrier Oils Perfect For Skin Care
Carrier Oils Perfect for your Skin
We recently took a look at some of our favorite natural oils like avocado and jojoba oil. In that article, we looked at oils that are relatively common, as well as a few more exotic oils. However, when it comes to carrier oils, we’ve barely scratched the surface! There are so many beneficial carrier oils that you can incorporate into your skincare and self-care routines.
Some of our favorite carrier oils have benefits that go way beyond skincare. Some carrier oils can reduce inflammation, provide muscle pain relief, and make your hair shiny and smooth. Here are a few more of our favorite carrier oils for skincare and for your health:
1 | Argan Oil
Argan oil, extracted from the Moroccan argan tree, has been one of the most popular carrier oils in recent years. With its incredible array of benefits for the hair and skin, it’s easy to see why. This carrier oil is absolutely loaded with fatty acids and Vitamin E. They hydrate and nourish the skin without leaving a heavy residue. Included in many hair care products, Argan oil is excellent at controlling frizziness, making hair shiny and satiny, and reducing split ends.
2 | Sweet Almond Oil
You may already be familiar with the health benefits of eating almonds. Much like avocados, almonds can provide benefits both inside and out. Because this carrier oil is hypoallergenic and mild, it’s great for almost any skin type. This is great news for people with sensitive or fair skin. This versatile carrier oil even helps prevent UV damage from the sun. Sweet almond oil is also great for cleaning pores and tackling the effects of eczema and psoriasis.
3 | Camellia Seed Oil
Camellia seed oil has been used in Japanese skin and hair care routines for centuries, but in recent years its use has grown in the west. Camellia seed oil has a wide variety of uses, especially because it moisturizes the skin without blocking pores. It’s perfect for dry spots and wrinkles on its own, and is mild enough to be used with most essential oils. Look for cold-pressed Camellia seed oil to get the full skincare benefits of this carrier oil.
4 | Apricot Kernel Oil
Apricot kernel oil is closely related to Sweet almond oil, and is sometimes just called “Apricot oil.” It has a sweet, slightly nutty scent and a subtle golden color. While it’s a relatively light, Apricot kernel oil is loaded with oleic and linoleic acid that you’d find in a heavy oil. It’s an ideal alternative to Olive oil, since Apricot kernel oil provides many of the same moisturizing and smoothing benefits without heaviness or leaving a greasy feeling.
5 | Kukui Nut Oil
Kukui nut oil, derived from Hawaii’s Aleurites moluccanus tree, is one of the most potent natural oils available. In addition to moisturizing and protecting skin, Kukui nut oil provides excellent pain relief. Because it can reduce inflammation and act as an analgesic when applied to the skin, it’s a very popular massage oil. Applied topically, Kukui nut oil can soothe joint and muscle pain and also promote healing after an injury or burn.
Choice Carrier Oils
Carrier oils may be considered “mild” oils, but as you can see, they’re anything but bland. Even used on their own, so many of these oils provide potent health and skincare benefits. Combined with powerful essential oils, they can revolutionize your skincare routine!
